Social Media Expert?

Peter Shankman and Sarah Evans co-wrote a great post called “Is your social media expert really an expert?” here are a couple of points that really stood out to me:

1. They call themselves an evangelist, guru or expert, and no one else does.

15. They don’t maintain an active blog (at least two posts every month).

18. When they talk strategy, there is no approach that encompasses a discussion about: communications, marketing, advertising, business development, internal communications and/or customer service.

The biggest thing when comparing marketing folks is to understand, is social media an addon service or package to them, something extra, or is it integrated into their overall strategy? Anyone can help you setup a Facebook, Twitter or whatever account but ask this, can they help you integrate it into your business as a strategy? Can they get you proven ROI? Have they integrated it successfully elsewhere?
